Reiki Treatment – Usui’s Original Hand Positions

Reiki Treatment – Usui’s Original Hand Positions

It is said that in the original Usui system, only five formal hand-positions were used; and these focused on the head and neck. This would appear to make  complete sense considering the major meridians and collaterals mapped in Traditional Chinese Medicine converge at the head. Easy access to the whole of the individuals physical and energetic system can be achieved through these five hand positions. A Reiki treatment session would first involve working with these five positions followed by treating the specific area of the body where imbalances were present. Treatment could be given with hands either in direct contact with the client, or alternatively with hands held a few inches out in the client’s energy field. While originally both the person receiving treatment and the person giving treatment would sit in seiza position, it […]

Essential Tools – Hibiki and Boyosen

Essential Tools – Hibiki and Boyosen

Having recieved Reiki attunment, the student should be able to sense the reiki phenomenon in the palms of their hands. Usui and Takata focused on the student cultivating Hibiki and Boyosen, allowing the Reiki to guide the hands rather than just relying on the formula of the formal hand positions adopted by new students. These skills are acquired over time and with practice, so do not feel discouraged if you do not experience them from the start. Hibiki – Resonance in the hands Whenever there is a disease, disharmony or disorder in a person’s energetic makeup (whether or not the individual is aware of it) there will always be an accompanying ‘energetic sensation’ referred to as Hibiki (resonance) in the practioners hands, providing one is aware of what to look for and providing one has […]

Sending Reiki Through The Blood Stream

Sending Reiki Through The Blood Stream

After  receiving a Reiki attunement / initiation we are instructed to practice Reiki on ourselves using the self healing hand positions as part of our initial 21 day clearing cycle.  Continued development and strengthening of our Reiki channel  should then become a regular part of our ongoing personal journey with Reiki.  Another simple technique we can use to stimulate optimum health is to send Reiki through the bloodstream. After all, our own Ki naturally permeates the bloodstream, so why not enhance it with Reiki. * Remember, where your attention goes – energy flows ! The method is simple and can be done standing, sitting or lying down. First,  Do whatever you do to connect with your Reiki and “hara” centre yourself, bringing  your awareness to your Seika tanden,  (two finger widths below the navel), watching […]

The Human Heart – Beyond Mechanics

The Human Heart – Beyond Mechanics

In Western Medicine  we have come to understand the function and importance of the heart purely in mechanical terms and explain it thus: The right and left sides of the heart have separate functions. The right side of the heart collects oxygen-poor blood from the body and pumps it to the lungs where it picks up oxygen and releases carbon dioxide. The left side of the heart then collects oxygen-rich blood from the lungs and pumps it to the body so that the cells throughout your body have the oxygen they need to function properly. Blood from the body flows: to the superior and inferior vena cava then to the right atrium through the tricuspid valve to the right ventricle through the pulmonic valve to the pulmonary artery to the lungs The blood picks up […]

The Gokai or 5 Principles of Reiki – Why Bother ?

The Gokai or 5 Principles of Reiki – Why Bother ?

For the Reiki student, these five teachings are at the heart of the personal inner Reiki journey and perhaps they seem a little odd to be the foundations for a healing modality, but on closer inspection, they open the way to a more harmonious state of “Being” and increase your connection to Reiki. By focusing on these concepts and integrating them into your daily life, you will feel more energised as the negative emotions and thoughts are challenged and the positives are promoted. In essence, you are using the Universal Life force to bring yourself into harmony with – ”the Universal Life Force” and in doing so, bringing yourself back into a state of balance and “wellness”. By repeating these 5 secrets and practicing them daily, we begin to embody their teaching. JUST FOR TODAY, […]

Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi (Ki) and Reiki

Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi (Ki) and Reiki

In traditional Chinese Medicine there are 2 basic types of Qi: Congenital Qi: This is a composite of Jing (our essence) and Yuan (original Qi) we are born with. This is a finite resource inherited from our parents which gathers and forms at conception and stored in the kidneys. It determines our basic constitution, strength and vitality and is essential for growth and development. As a finite resource, it can be conserved but not replenished so when it is depleted, life ends. Acquired Qi: This is derived from the food we eat and the air we breathe. The quality of acquired Qi is dependent on our habits, the quality of food and water we consume, our mental and emotional balance, physical exercise, sleep and so on. Yuan Qi  (Original Ki). This is the Qi that […]

The Human Identity

The Human Identity

What are you? Are you your brain? Are you your body? Are you a combination of the two? When most people use the word “I” they tend to mean it in reference a whole person, made up of many different pieces. “I” usually refers to the personality, the body and the brain. That is deceiving though, because one could still be called “I” even after losing most of the above and if we are made up of only our personality, body and brain, why is it we can observe our own emotions, our own thoughts? What is doing the observing? Seasoned meditators have learned to clear their mind and watch as their thoughts flow by as a psychotherapist would observe a patient. What is watching your thoughts? If common knowledge is true (that “I” […]

Hyper-Suggestibility

Hyper-Suggestibility

Hyper-Suggestibility is a term used to describe a drowsy, child-like state where information is rapidly absorbed into the subconscious; bypassing the usual mental filters that information is put through. In this state of extreme receptivity, images and verbal suggestions are more likely to be accepted and acted upon. (ref: Budzynski, Ph.D.) It is common knowledge that children learn faster than adults. Researchers believe that one of the reasons for this is that young children spend most of their time with the dominant brainwave being Theta or Delta. But children don’t just learn words and arithmetic; they learn how to survive, indeed, how to think. They are, in effect, building up a subconscious that will support them later in life. For example, in the first years of childhood subconscious mechanisms need to be built to handle […]

Epigenetics has challenged the orthodox view of molecular information transference

Epigenetics has challenged the orthodox view of molecular information transference

Click here to read a great article published by mercola.comBy Dr. Mercola Extract – How much control do you really have over your own life in general, and your health in particular? These questions have puzzled many since the beginning of time. Now, the emerging science of epigenetics is offering some answers that put true control within your reach. According to some scientists, changing your health may be as “simple” as changing your thoughts and beliefs. “Contrary to what many people are being led to believe, a lot of emphasis placed on genes determining human behavior is nothing but theory and doctrine,” writes Konstantin Erikseni . “We are free to make decisions that impact our lives and those of others. … Our beliefs can change our biology. We have the power to heal ourselves, increase […]

The Brain Waves of Reiki

The Brain Waves of Reiki

Who the best healers are and how healing works has been the subject of scientific research since the 1970’s when investigators first began to study the brain waves of hands-on healers. With advances in brainwave technology and neuroprogramming, we are now getting a firm grasp on what seasoned meditators, Buddhist Monks, Shamen and Spiritual Healers all have in common; and how to enhance this ability.
